Theres nothing to do!! Theres nowhere to go! That was what everyone said about Peterhead on social media.
Just over 2 and a half years ago we (Willie & Nicola Cruden) came up with the idea of Wheelie World after seeing how much fun our Son Lyall was having on his crazy cart that he got from Santa.
Like many kids in Peterhead in The 80s/ 90’s Willie used to love going to jacarandas arcade to play the arcade games, pool and especially the tuppeny nudger bandits.
This building was hidden away up a lane in queen street next to national taxis and had closed down many years ago.
After contacting the owners we arranged a viewing.
Inside the building all the classic games we played as kids were still in the building and stepping inside jacarandas was like a time warp and brought back so many good memories.
The building, and most of the machines were sadly ruined due to extensive water damage and the whole building would need totally gutted. Never the less, we decided we would take on the mammoth task to renovate the old jacaranda Arcade in Peterhead and bring it back to use for a new generation of kids and adults to enjoy and create more memories in.
Our vision was to bring our new Idea to life, and that idea was Wheelie World. This would be a place to come with family and friends for Coffees, drinks snacks and primarily a place where everyone could have fun on our karts, hoverboards, scooters and drift bikes.
In September 2019 after over a years non stop hard work from friends family and contractors this eventually became a reality when we eventually opened the doors. We quickly gained a reputation for our wheelie amazing party’s and our reviews on Facebook and Google were a testimony that hard work was paying off. Most of all, we were all delighted to see everyone having a great time. This made it all worthwhile and we were booking up fast for our party packages and our timed sessions were getting busier and busier.
Things were finally on track (no pun intended)
Then!!! Lockdown hit us and we had to close our doors to protect the public and our staff. This was a very hard time but we soon settled in and took the opportunity to have a well earned break.
Dj Dav got the Keys to wheelie world and continued to entertain and raise funds to supply key workers with PPE with a weekly live DJ set and raised a staggering £25,000 through donations for frontline workers.
This was simply amazing and showed the community spirit we have in Peterhead.
With the likelihood we would not be opening karts any time soon we had a group meeting and decided we had to take action and temporarily reinvent ourselves.
This meant us going back to the drawing board and more hard work.
We removed the track and made room for our new FOOTPOOL Activity. This was designed around social distancing as the tables are 2 m x 4 m and with correct spacing, sanitising and no hand contact it was the ideal activity.
In addition to this we struck a deal with Buchans Ices to be Peterheads first and only supplier of the famous St Combes Ice cream (out with the Cappy vans of course)
As its Summertime we also created an outdoor Coffee and Ice cream garden for social distancing (another first for Peterhead) so now we have the Coffee Shop serving fresh Caber Coffee, our new Snack bar menu with our amazing Donuts toasties, loaded dogs and a range of ice creams, cones sundaes, Milk shakes and Frappes all made with St Combs Ice cream.
Safety screens, sanitiser stations, contactless payments and Footpool.
All we ask is for you to invite all your friends and family to like our page so we will reach more potential customers than ever before as Facebook restricts our customer reach and please pop down for an ice cream, a coffee n piece, book a foot pool table or just come in for a visit to say hi.
